<- Homepage: Our Primary Industries: Unpacking the apple story

Job description:

Study how insects interact with each other and how they impact on horticultural crops such as apples, grapes, tomatoes and potatoes.

Work background:

I began working at Plant and Food Research two years ago. I'm involved in insect pest monitoring and management such as codling moth, apple leaf curling midge and guava moth.

Favourite part of job:

The variety of tasks and activities throughout the season, including both field work and lab work/report writing.

Least favourite part of job:

The transition from summer to winter.

What I am working on now:

Currently working on a report to see the pesticide use of summerfruit growers in Hawke’s Bay and other regions in New Zealand.

A (humorous) story about a job that went badly and what you learned:

While checking a trap, a colleague fell into a deep ditch filled with water. I had to pull her out and she was absolutely saturated! I learned to be careful when checking traps!

Masters of Science majoring in Biosecurity and Conservation.
