Hello everyone, tēnā koutou,

I am Eddy the new LEARNZ ambassador. From 2019, I will be going on all the trips with Andrew and help look after the other ambassadors from your schools.

I really love LEARNZ field trips about New Zealand's special places. I am looking forward to discovering more Ahuahu - Great Mercury Island.

Best,

Eddy

We had a long drive from Auckland to Whitianga today. Some of the roads were quite windy and I felt a little bit sick in parts. I was glad to get to Whitianga and get some fresh sea air into my lungs!

I am looking forward to travelling by boat to Ahuahu tomorrow. Unlike driving, I can handle a bit of rough sea and rather enjoy it!

Talk tomorrow,

Eddy

Today we visited Mercury Bay Area School. We met some teachers and students, as well as the Principal. Then we picked up Alfred, the ambassador for Mercury Bay. It was great to finally meet him!

Our boat ride to Ahuahu was fun. It got a bit choppy in parts, but I loved it! I think Fantasia was feeling a bit green at times though. It is great to be on Ahuahu Great Mercury Island.

I am looking forward to exploring parts of the island tomorrow.

Talk soon,

Eddy

Today we went to a place called Coralie Bay. It looks sunny and warm, but the wind was strong and rather chilly! Greg said in summer there are lots of boats that come here. Today we were the only ones on the beach and no boats were in sight.

In the photo you can see behind me Pari Nui Te Rā – The White Cliffs. It is said that these cliffs are a great beacon that guided all the waka to Aotearoa from Te Moana-Nui-O-Kiwa, the Pacific Ocean.

Talk soon,

Eddy

I have had a fun time learning about archaeology on this field trip. I also enjoyed our visit to Mercury Bay Area School and meeting Sassy the rodent dog! I would like to go back to Ahuahu one day and spend a bit ore time there. Like Louise Furey said; “We’ve only just scratched the surface!”

Catch you on the next field trip,

Eddy
