Andrew the LEARNZ Teacher

Job:

I am the field trip teacher for the LEARNZ primary programme.

Job description:

During each school term I organise and run virtual field trips for classes throughout New Zealand. We go on trips to study New Zealand's biodiversity and natural environment. Each field trip has background pages so that everyone knows a little about where we're going and what we are going to see. I help teachers get ready with curriculum and classroom ideas. Out in the field I work with the Department of Conservation staff and other experts. We talk with schools during live audioconferences. I write a daily diary which is posted each night on the web along with still and video images. I take class ambassadors with me and together we explore some of New Zealand's special places.

Work background:

I have taught mainly at the upper levels within the primary sector. Most recently I worked as a teaching Deputy Principal. This is my sixth year as a LEARNZ field trip teacher.

Favourite part of job:

I’m looking forward to catching up with people from places I have visited before. I am also looking forward to exploring parts of Aotearoa that I have not been to yet, and sharing my discoveries with all of you!

Least favourite part of job:

None really.

Qualifications:

I have a Bachelor of Sport and Recreation, Diploma of Teaching and a Graduate Diploma of Education Management.

Interests outside work:

Fishing and the outdoors, cooking, gym, family and friends (my three daughters keep me busy!)

Andrew the LEARNZ Teacher will lead the second Memorial Park field trip in May 2014.
