Meet Sam Charlton

Job:

Professor of Psychology at the University of Waikato.

Job description:

I do research and teaching in the area of Cognitive Psychology. Cognitive Psychology is the study of thinking, attention, memory, and decision making.

Work background:

I have worked for companies, for the US Air Force, and now for the University of Waikato.

Favourite part of job:

Research and teaching.

Least favourite part of job:

Going to meetings.

What I am working on now:

Lots of research, some about ride sharing and some about what people notice when they drive.

A quick story about a job well done:

Some of our recent research was used to change the drink driving laws.

A (humorous) story about a job that went badly and what you learned:

In my lecture this afternoon, the sound equipment wasn't working and so I had to make my own sound effects for the students. They enjoyed it and I learned that IT staff will often change things from one day to the next without telling the users.

I play badminton.
