Ambassador Llamington

Kia ora koutou

My name is Llamington and I am from Kohia Terrace School. I am excited about this upcoming trip! I love to eat baked goods. I am looking forward to our school disco because I know all the dance moves from Fortnite and Saturday Night Fever (apparently I cut more shapes than a cookie cutter). I believe in public transportation and fighting climate change.

Kia ora everyone

Today we went by boat from Russell to Moturua Island. On the island is a place called Mangahāwea. Mangahāwea is a bay where some of New Zealand’s first people lived. We met an archaeologist named Andrew (not Andrew the LEARNZ teacher!). He told us what they found out about life all those hundreds of years ago. Archaeologists find out this information by searching for things in the ground and seeing how people changed the land for activities like gardening.

It has been an interesting day. Talk tomorrow,

Today we went sailing on the R Tucker Thompson. We went to a place where Captain Cook and his crew on the Endeavour anchored in 1769. It was a lot of fun and we also learned a bit about sailing a ship. We also heard the story about what happened when local Māori met Cook and his crew for the first time. It wasn’t exactly smooth sailing! Make sure you watch the videos so you can also hear the story.

Catch you tomorrow,

Llamington

Kia ora everyone

I have had a fantastic week; I hope you all have too. I enjoyed the web conferences and I felt proud when you were a speaking school. Did you learn a lot like me? I’m sure there are many questions you still have from the field trip. After all, the arrival and meeting of diverse cultures in Aotearoa is a big topic! We had an enjoyable time at the beach doing some dune restoration work today. I wonder if there is a conservation project near our school that we could get involved in.

See you soon,

Llamington
