Ambassador Harakeke

Hi,

I'm Harakeke. I live in room 19 with Pepe the chihuahua, Choc and Chip the guinea pigs and a tank of tropical fish - plus 21 awesome students! I like to go on adventures and especially like dancing, singing and drama. I could secretly be Flaxmere Primary School's smallest drama queen!

Catch you soon,

Harakeke

Monday 8 September

Hi everyone,

I made the big leap across Cook Strait today from the North Island to the South Island. I Googled how far away I am from school – 730 kilometres!

I had to go through security screening today at Auckland Airport. You will be pleased to know that I wasn’t carrying any dangerous items.

Egbert is quite pleased I am on the field trip. He says that most people think he is a frog. Now if someone says that, he can point to me and say; “No, THERE is a frog!”

Tuesday 9 September

Hi everyone,

Well done with the audioconference today! I thought you all did a great job, especially when there was a bit of a mix-up at the start. Poor Andrew felt a bit embarrassed about it all but we got there in the end – he really appreciated your patience.

Later on you saw the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) in action. These are the people who make sure you don’t bring anything illegal into the country. You can see me in the photo by a sign saying what you need to declare – meaning what you need to tell MPI what you have in your bag that could be a risk. It is good to know there are people looking after the country like this.

Wednesday 10 September

Hi everyone,

Today we learned a bit about how CIAL works hard to be friendly towards the environment. I think this is very important, especially since most of my relatives live in the wild! Even simple things like recycling makes a difference. In the photo you can see me on one of the many recycling bins around the airport. I can’t remember if we have recycling at the school or not. If not, I think it is something to look into.

Talk tomorrow,

Harakeke

Thursday 11 September

Hi everyone,

We had so much fun today with wildlife control and airport fire services. Cam Kenyon showed us how the water cannons worked on the fire truck. Wow, they sure were powerful! Then Ian Stothers showed us how they scare away birds with guns that fire exploding rockets.  They were scary for little frogs too!

Thank you so much for sending me on the field trip. I hope you have had as much fun as I have. I am looking forward to coming back to school.
