Gosh I sure have had a big journey. I’ve been all the way up to the Bay of Islands where Andrew lives, and then today I flew all the way down to Christchurch. Travelling makes you tired but it is a lot of fun. It is great to visit and learn about different places.

I hope everything is going well back in Greymouth. I think you’re going to find this field trip very interesting.

Catch you again tomorrow,

It was a really interesting day today. In the photo you can see me standing in front of a truck that is used to take ice off the planes before they take off (if it is cold enough that is). Taking off snow and ice on the wings and tail of an aeroplane is really important for take-off. The wings and tail are a particular shape to, well, make it fly! Snow and ice can change the shape of the wings and tail which means the planes won’t lift off as well as they should. Interesting stuff!

Today we got to go to the international departure lounge. This is where all the people go who are heading overseas. It is the last place they visit in New Zealand before flying out of the country. It was an exciting place to visit. I could just imagine what it would be like if it was me about to board one of the really big aeroplanes that fly such long distances to other countries. I hope I get to travel overseas one day!

By the way, it was great to hear you guys on the audioconference today – I thought you were choice!

It was so much fun being out on the airfield today. The planes seem so massive when you are so close to them. It is so amazing that they can actually fly!

The highlight today was seeing the airport fire trucks in action. These are some serious pieces of machinery costing over one million dollars each! And boy, are their water cannons powerful!

Looking forward to seeing you all again. Thanks for letting me go on another cool LEARNZ field trip.
