First Time Domestic Traveller

Here's what happens at Christchurch International Airport when you go on a domestic flight (flights within New Zealand).

Check-in

You can use either a check-in desk or a check-in kiosk machine. You can even check-in online, but this depends on which airline you are using.

At a check-in desk the airline staff member will give you a seat number and send any luggage you have to the aircraft. If you use a kiosk, you will select your own seat and take your luggage to the bag drop-off area.

Go to your gate

Your gate number and boarding time will be on your boarding pass. Flight information screens around the airport will also let you know when you need to go to your gate.

Security check

You and your carry-on baggage must go through security screening before you board your flight. This makes sure you are not carrying any dangerous items.

Board flight

Once you are at your gate, you will be called for boarding. You present your boarding pass to the assistant at the gate. Hold on to your boarding pass to show the cabin crew on-board. They will show you to your seat.
