Meet Travis Ashcroft

Job:
  • Senior Adviser, Long-term Programmes, Ministry for Primary Industries.
  • Planning & Intelligence Lead, Kauri Dieback Programme.
Job description:

Leading a team for science research and building knowledge and tools to aid in the fight against kauri-dieback.

Work background:

16 years working in the biosecurity sector.

Favourite part of job:

Working across a number of organizations to find solutions to issues.

Least favourite part of job:

The high-profile nature of the job means you are under constant scrutiny.

What I am working on now:

Getting some new exciting research projects.

A quick story about a job well done:

The huge number of strides we have made recently in terms of getting work done, addressing issues in the past and ramping up research activities over the last few years.

A (humorous) story about a job that went badly and what you learned:

A 4-WD training course I went on when our driving instructor was teaching us how to drive off track up a hill, he subsequently lost control and crashed our brand new work ute into a tree. Take a way message…everybody makes mistakes no matter how qualified or skilled you are in your profession.
