Ambassador Taiamai

Kia ora,

I'm Taiamai Teddy and I am now a well travelled fellow. I have even travelled to the USA and Canada last year with Mrs H. However I have never been to Invercargill and I'm very excited about this next journey - I really love flying now. I also love meeting up with other ambassadors and the teachers.

Talk soon,

Taiamai.

Monday 21 May

Kia ora,

I am so lucky to have made it on this journey. I almost did not arrive at Shelley’s place in time. Luckily, she had one last look in the mail box before heading to the airport and found me eagerly awaiting. The other ambassadors were so excited to see me!

It was such a great flight north with spectacular views. It was pretty chilly in Christchurch, not like back home but with the sun shining we made the most of our time by exploring the city. Tomorrow we are going to look into the future and test a self-driving car!

Mā te wā,

Taiamai.

Tuesday 22 May

Kia ora,

We had such an interesting day today. The best part was taking a ride in a self-driving vehicle. It was hard to believe that this car did not need anyone to control it. These cars have sensors on them so can ‘see’ what’s around them and stop if anything gets in the way. It was also cool to find out how aircraft navigate and see all the new technology that planes have to help know exactly where they are.

Tomorrow I am looking forward to launching a drone.

See you then,

Taiamai.

Wednesday 23 May

Kia ora,

It was freezing in Invercargill today. I was glad that I have lots of fur otherwise I think I would have got frostbite!

Despite the weather we managed to explore a satellite ground station which allows us to collect information from satellites and track them and launch a drone. I have decided that I want to become a drone pilot. It looks like so much fun and it would be useful for taking photos, knowing where things are and filming.

Well I have to head to Dunedin now, so I’ll catch up with you again tomorrow.

Taiamai.

Thursday 24 May

Kia ora,

We completed our Techy Tour in Dunedin today and it was a Dunner Stunner with the sun shining. I learned about the art and science of surveying. Surveyors are experts in measurement and have lots of different tools that they use to make accurate measurements. It was neat to visit a wetland on private property that has been surveyed so it can be protected with a covenant. This means that even if the property is sold the wetland will stay protected.

I have had so much fun on this field trip. I will miss the other ambassadors, but I am looking forward to getting home.

See you soon,

Taiamai.
