Ambassador Egbert

Hello everyone tēnā koutou,

I am Egbert the LEARNZ ambassador. I go on all the trips with Andrew and help look after the other ambassadors from your school.

This is going to be an amazing field trip and I look forward to you joining us getting ready and taking part in New Zealand ShakeOut.

Best,

Egbert

Monday 12 October

Tēnā koutou,

It didn't seem to take very long at all to arrive in Christchurch today. It is amazing that you can travel 1,300 kilometres in only four hours.

We had a whole row of seats to ourselves for the flight from Auckland to Christchurch. They were really comfortable too. We were given a Cookie Time cookie and a cup of tea to dunk it in - yum!

Best,

Egbert

Tuesday 13 October

Tēnā everyone,

Today we went to the old Burwood School, now known as Waitākiri School – River Campus. It is a bit sad to think that this old place will be knocked down soon. After all, it is 141 years old – one of the oldest schools in Christchurch!

I heard lots of interesting stories about people’s earthquake experiences today. It took me back in time and reminded me of my own earthquake story. Did you know I was also in the Christchurch earthquakes? I certainly learned about the need to be prepared for the unexpected, although I hope I never have to ever go through that experience again!

Best,

Egbert

Wednesday 14 October

Kia ora everyone,

Today I met Stan the dog. Stan is part of the ‘Stan’s got a plan’ programme that is run by Christchurch City Council to help students get ready for a natural disaster. I sure hope Christchurch doesn’t have another one too soon though – they’re still getting over the earthquakes!

I also caught up with my old mate Biggles. Biggles has been on quite a few LEARNZ field trips with me in the past, so it was great to see him again and catch up on the latest gossip. Of course Biggles was from Windsor School, which has since merged with Burwood School to become Waitākiri School. I hope he can come on another field trip with me again soon!

Best,

Egbert

Thursday 15 October

Kia ora everyone,

Today was the ShakeOut earthquake drill. Did you do ShakeOut too? I sure can see the reason for doing drop cover hold. You should know by now that this is the best action to take if an earthquake happens.

I have had a super week. I have met friendly Waitākiri staff, cool students, great guys (and a dog) from Christchurch City Council, and learned a lot along the way. Great stuff eh!

Best,

Egbert
